Why we need your help

Over 2,700 children in the UK aged under five are severely or profoundly deaf. Just a tiny fraction – between 2 and 4% – of these children currently get the chance to benefit from specialist auditory verbal early intervention and expertise*. We want to move to a future where all families with a deaf child have access to such expertise and early intervention, maximising their potential to gain an equal start at school with age-appropriate listening and spoken language. With your help, we hope to move a long way to achieving this ambition in the next ten years.

*Data on numbers of children from National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and National Statistics. Just over 2% of these children are on the AVUK caseload. A few cochlear implant centres also provide AVT hence the 2-4% estimate.

How we are funded

We could not do what we do without support. Every donation makes a difference in helping us to achieve our ambitions for deaf children. AVUK does not receive any direct funding from the Government. We rely on public donations, corporate support and funding from grant-making trusts and foundations.

We are reaching more babies, children with complex needs, families on low incomes and supporting more families so that they can incorporate auditory verbal therapy in their local authority packages of support or access other sources of funds. With your help we are able to subsidise the cost of each family’s journey by a third and offer further support to those families who would not otherwise be able to participate.

AVUK is a small charity without a big professional fundraising department. Please help us to achieve our ambitions for deaf children by taking the time to browse this section of the website and following the links which are most relevant to you.
